In Sardinia thirteen of the
seventy species of Lycenid species in existence
in Italy are found. Three of these are endemic: the Pseudophilotes
barbagiae, which only inhabits a few sheltered areas
of the island; the Lycaeides corsica, which is
also found in Corsica and the island of Elba; the Aricia
cramera which can also be seen in Corsica.
Butterflies of this genus are small, and hence are called
"microlepidoptera". They tend to be coloured
grey, beige and mid-light blue, occasionally with a metallic
hue.
They prefer mountain habitats, hence their presence in
the Gennargentu, Limbara and Mount Arci regions.
